My daughter was first introduced to Karate for Girls at a Howard County camp fair last summer. She attended a free introductory class and loved it! Initially, I was hesitant and thought that she would get bored of the classes (as she does of most of her other activities after a few weeks!). However, since last year, she has been enrolled in the classes and has stayed in the program. She loves the fact that the class is all girls, giving her a chance to really be herself. The girls with advanced belts in the class serve as excellent role models. What I love about her karate class is that it is not just a karate class, it is a social, cultural, and academic empowerment group. “Sensei” helps the girls organize charity drives to help the needy, sends newsletters with healthy eating tips, tells the girls to clean their rooms, and even asks about school performance. They even had a holiday party, complete with food and “movie night”. This year, my daughter is working on her yellow belt. I am very happy that she is a part of the karate for girls and expects she will continue to learn and advance her training.

The self-defense course was not only educational, informative and practical, but also empowering. I was provided with safety tips and awareness strategies that I currently implement in my daily routine, which didn’t require very many adjustments to my existing lifestyle. However, with this addition of tips and strategies came the added benefits of an increased sense of safety and security, which are remarkable. Additionally, the self-defense moves that Master Washington teaches provide an added barrier of protection and security. -Natosha

The class was great and very informative. I would recommend it for everyone. -Cheryl

I thought the class was very enlightening. I learned various self-defense techniques that can be used on persons of all different sizes. The class size was small and the instructor was great, I look forward to the next session. -Takia

The self-defense course was very informative. In this day and time of rising and unstable crime, it reminds us to be alert of what is going on around us. I find myself going over the techniques in my head from time to time, sort of as a refresher. Although, I pray I never have to utilize what was taught, I am grateful for your instruction. I believe that awareness is key to survival. -Maria
